The Instructional Playbook

To be effective, coaches need to have a deep understanding of high-impact teaching strategies. They also need to be able to clearly explain those strategies. Creating an instructional playbook addresses both these aspects of coaching.

This 1-day course guides coaches and leaders through the development of an instructional playbook, an essential tool for every coach.

The most recent publication from the Instructional Coaching Group, The Instructional Playbook: The Missing Link for Translating Research into Practice describes what coaches can do to develop the depth of knowledge and clear explanations that will lead to high-quality implementation. We harness the power of this research in a 1-day course that guides teams or individuals through the creation of a playbook. This course is designed to follow The Impact Cycle course and is suitable for schools that have been implementing instructional coaching cycles for over 12 months.

Participants will:

· examine the rationale for creating an instructional playbook

· learn how to identify the highest-impact teaching strategies

· create one-page documents that summarise vital information about strategies

· craft checklists that identify what teachers and students need to do to implement the strategies successfully

· have focused time to design a school-specific instructional playbook.
